I loved this class~~~I had such a good time~~~I got to spend a lot of time with Jennifer and her mom, Pat and met a new friend Nancy who lives 20 minutes from me (right near Moo!) and all I got to say is I'm so glad I went!!! It was so worth it in so many ways. First off, even though it had been many many moons since I had gone off somewhere by myself and I was a bit nervous about all that (sure makes you appreciate your partner so much more) it gave me a chance to step away from my life and really appreciate it. That, in and of itself, was a gift~~~so I knew right away that whatever happened on the weekend was icing on the cake.
I was wondering if Jennifer's class would be a lot like what she demonstrated on the Martha Stewart show and would I really be getting any new information--well, I'm happy to report that I did--little tricks of the trade that I'm so grateful to know--and what could be better than to have the master there to answer all my questions?
Jen was very thorough and explained everything with utmost patience--the class was not too crowded so there was plenty of one-on-one time too. And to tell you the truth, it was just so nice to sit there with a bunch of fellow artists for the whole day, crafting away. How I wish I could meet with this group every week!
So the deal was to make a little pompom bunny and chickeedee sitting on a box--you'd be surprised all the work it takes to accomplish this! I haven't even finished mine yet! And I learned a few things like I said before~~~it felt like someone had just given me the secret combination to a treasure chest! And making pompoms by hand? No japanese thingies required? Way cool! I'm totally impressed by Jen's skill.
Anyhow we got to do this all day long and I could have easily done it for anther day or two (or three or four)!
AND the good news is Jennifer said she was thinking about conducting some classes out of her new big studio---possibly. She was thinking of setting up something with things to do in Minneapolis too and make a weekend out of it. How fun is that? And where do I sign up?!!! I miss her already!
;-)
Here is the line-up of boxes at the end of class. Mine is second from the left. I just have to sew my guys on the box and I'll be done. I hope to get to that today and hopefully post a pic tomorrow of the finished product.
If you want to see more pictures, just go to my flickr pages. There is a Murphy Trunk Show to see and I came home with this little treasure from that. Clyde. Jen said to use him as a pincushion and not keep him behind glass (like the rest of the clan I have from her). Inspiration for my bearmaking future, just what I needed.
Oh, and when I first met Jennifer and her mom, Pat, I remember writing in my blog that they seemed like the kind of people you'd like to have tea with ~~~ Well, I'm happy to say, that they are even more fun to have a nice cold one with. I think I made some new friends.
Happy, Happy Day-O.

Fantastic! Love the coffee story and Jennifer's toys, I totally understand your fascination and urge to create some more teddy bears!

Lucky DUCKY!!! Oh, I'm so jealous! I really, REALLY wanted to go but I couldn't. You know, WORK apparently is more important than having fun. LOL! I need to keep my job otherwise I won't be able to support my Jennifer Murphy softie obsession, quilting hobby and my new "crack du jour" Blythe and BJDs (ball-jointed dolls)! LOL! Lovelovelove Jenifer's stuff!
That Clyde is awfully cute! I'd rather stare at him than poke him with pins and needles. Ooh, and I love your pom-pom project. I'm not trying to collect brownie points here but yours is the best of the bunch. Seriously!
