ThanksGiving ~ the Forgotten Holiday No Longer

Well, my idea to post everyday isn't working out too well is it? Ah well, I tried. I'm just too darn busy these days. The kiddo has a ton of homework that we both have to plow through each afternoon, and that is just plain sucking up the day. Ridiculous--but he is doing great. Me, I am back in first grade. So, these days the hours he is in school are my only hours to accomplish anything. Grocery shopping, cleaning and everything else has to wait--it's a matter of priorities these days. We are living in a whole other world. What an adjustment! I feel like a hamster in one of those wheels. Flying ahead but feeling I'm not getting where I want to be as soon as I would like.

So, now that Halloween is a thing of the past--I am on to Thanksgiving--the forgotten holiday when it comes to holiday decor. We will have to fix that. After all, company is guarranteed and everyone needs to oogle and ahhhh over something in the house. Hence the need for...

cute and vintage tabletop displays. This time I'm using real vintage spun cotton heads--remember my big glass pumpkin jar? It is two heads less full now. The turkey I'm making completely from scratch and doing the crepe paper thing which I'm getting more and more enthused about. I'm happy that I've gathered a nice supply of "stuff" around which makes it fun, and I keep thinking about the video of Martha Stewart and Jennifer Murphy a couple of years ago now where Martha and Jennifer talk about the importance of using vintage supplies in your work--really adds something to it--"cause they just don't make Quality stuff like this anymore. Ain't it the truth.

The crafting muse has returned

I've been busy during my absence on the blog--getting into my crafts again...

Making stuff for my shoppe--hopefully in time for the holidays. Well, I've got some easter in there so for sure we will make it in time. I've been collecting vintage treasures for the past couple of months from all over to study as well as incorporate into all my projects. I hit upon a new technique too that I'm liking very much and it seems very effective; I'm very much liking the results I'm getting.

I got this vintage Japan easter chick candy container from an etsy seller and it inspired me to make one of my own (Actually I have two of them in the works). Candy containers are really floating my boat these days, I can't get enough of them.

I'm hoping the shoppe will reopen around labor day if not before. And I'm decluttering my studio so there will be some misc. stuff to sell too.

But I also have another project I'm working on and have been for weeks. Redoing the bedroom.

For the first time ever in my life, I went dark. The feeling I'm going for is calming and sanctuary like--I got the idea from a recent visit to my favorite spa--the walls were all dark. I'm doing a mural over the bed and sponging the walls for a textured look. It's really turning out nice which was sort of a surprise as I feel like I was taking a big risk. We also hired the closet factory to come redo our closets so we can double our storage space. It's going to be great when it's done! I wish that was now--we have been sleeping in the living room with our stuff piled all around for quite some time. I'm not as fast with a paint brush as I used to be.

Now we're cooking!

I finished up all my files for my website update! Hurrah! That's a load off my brain. I popped them into the mail yesterday on a disc for my webmaster. Hopefully, I covered all the bases. It's really weird letting go of the old, but once you do--it's so exciting to let in the new.

Here is the new! Even though the bears are a bit old. 5 months ago! But new to the website so there ya go. And here I am; a bit old--hence the soft focus I utilized on PicNik through flickr. It's 6 days to my birthday don'tcha know! But I don't mind, older is wiser in my book and I'll take wisdom over youth any day of the week---um...I think.

So, I've been puttering around the studio making lists and taking notes on all the projects started and stopped over the years, making plans for my shoppe and trying to make a plan for books and bears. All the ducks are getting in their rows and now that I've decided what I'm doing for the next chapter of my life, I have to tell you, I'm getting quite excited about it.
